More bad news
Mon, Nov. 17 2008
We also are mourning the losses of Alton Ellis and Byron Lee who both passed away in the past few weeks and both were battling cancer. Alton was one of Jamaica's greatest singers and Byron Lee was the leader and bass player of the Dragonaires, the only Jamaican band that has been peforming longer than The Skatalites. Two more icons of ska and reggae music have passed on and will be missed greatly. Respect,The Skatalites

Mon, Aug. 18 2008
We deeply regret to inform you that on Aug 16,2008 John Arlington Moore a.k.a. Dizzy Johnny passed away after a long battle with colon cancer. Johnny was a founding member and trumpetist of The Skatalites and had his own career before and after the Skatalites and was known for such reggae hits as "Rockfort Rock" and "Swing Easy",as well as touring with Bunny Wailer since the 80's and recently had also been touring with The Jamaican All Stars. Dizzy was the most featured soloist on Studio One label started by Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd in the late 50's. Examples of this work can be found on material of such icons as Bob Marley, Toots and The Maytals, Dawn Penn, and many more. He will be deeply missed by all of us,fans, friends, and family.

We regret to announce the passing of original Skatalites guitarist Jerome Haynes aka Jah Jerry. Our deepest sympathies and condolensces to all family, friends and fans. Jerry was a pioneer of ska and played it long before there was a Skatalites. He was a founding member in 1964 and tried to join in the reunion Skatalites appearing with them a few times from 1983 on but his health was not such that he could tour so his appearances were infrequent. We will all miss him dearly and remember him as the great musician he was. Respect, The Skatalites
